Burnisher – Egg

We are stocking these egg-shaped burnishers as we wanted to offer a larger diameter stone burnisher- however commissioning larger diameter rod burnishers became very expensive- these provide a variety of different radii and are made from quartz- this has a hardness of 7- 7.5 on the Mohs scale this makes it naturally scratch-resistant so its finely polished surface will be maintained and transferred to your carvings.

The larger eggs are from rose quartz- they do have odd voids in their surface but there are enough clean radii that they are still useable.

The smaller tiger eye eggs do not have these natural flaws.

Coarse abrasive coated felt

An Abrasive felt wheel for grinding the inside of gouges, see this here for more information. This coating will reshape a gouge that has been rounded badly but would not be needed for general ‘maintenance ‘ sharpenings, use with the felt rotating away from the edge not into it.  Available in two sizes to suit the Nic Westermann swan neck and cygnet gouges. A mandrel for these felts can be found here. Eye protection should be worn at all times when grinding with these felts.

These abrasive felts especially the larger size can be used on the inside of most adzes, if in doubt please ask us for advice.
