Convex platten

Description

This convex platten allows hollow grinding on the ProEdge, giving a diameter of 225mm, halfway between the standard 200/ 250mm stones found on Tormeks. Standard sized belts will fit it.

Whilst originally designed for use with our  sloyd jig and support bar to quickly grind sloyd knives, the optional gimbal is also recommended to get an accurate, repeatable grind.

This platten has also been used for axes, the new tormek axe jig works well on this, although this jigs design means it is unlikely to grind very accurate bevels the resulting edge is still servicable, and very quick compared to a wetstone grinder produced edge ( which would have identical geometry issues)

The convex platten is made from Heat treated spring steel and will last for dozens of blades, we have yet to wear one out, and the originals are are over 6 years old. However everything wears eventually, the platten can be flipped on the backing plate to present a new surface ( assuming you haven’t concentrated your grinding dead centre) it can even be reground with care, but in the future we will make the plattens available as a replacement part to customers that have bought this full assembly.
